Alaka Mahabidyalaya existing at the bank of a ephemeral river “ALAKA” has become one of the premier composite degree college of the district. It comes under the jurisdiction of Biridi Block, though its physical area extend to the mouza Birabarapatana coming under jurisdiction of Jagatsinghpur block.
The college was founded on 24th August 1979 by the villagers of Bagalpur, Balia, Birabarapatana, Sadhei, Dandilo, Basantpur, Jaysole and Rambhadeipur. Some eminent educationist, statesmen and local leaders spirited by their good sense decided to establish a college for the upcoming students of the locality, who could not afford to go away from home for study.
After few months the managing committee approached the then Advocate General of Odisha, Sri Gangadhar Rath, who happens to be a native of Bagalpur village to look after the college during its infancy. Thereafter, with the patronage and supervision of Sri Rath the college gradually rose to its prominence with the construction of buildings, Library and Playground. It was Gangadhar Rath who took it as a mission and transformed it in to a recognised institution. He also beautified the college campus with a lustrous floral garden which has been an attraction for teachers and students till now.
Sri Gangadhar Rath, on his own and with the financial assistance of his close friends and associates consolidated the financial and academic status of the college.
